LEAGUE REPORT

Moray are bidding for their third successive victory in the League when they defend the G.R. Thomson Shield this year at Forres.

Nairn and Elgin drew the opening match in this year's League when Elgin came back from an early 3½-1½ deficit to share the points with two last green victories. In the second mid-week match Forres hosted Nairn Dunbar and made a strong start on their home course with a convincing 6-2 victory as they attempt to win the Shield for the first time since 2004.

Elgin and Moray were the first game on Saturday morning with it coming down to the last two games with Stuart Tatters sealing victory on the last hole. Nairn took the points off the host club Forres when Bruce Thomson and Robert Smith won both their games.

The defending champions, Moray completed a perfect day with a second victory which was less easy than the final score suggests with both Stuart Tatters and Philip McPherson coming back after trailng to secure valuable points for the Lossiemouth team. Forres recovered from their morning loss to keep their title hopes alive with a close 5-3 win over Elgin with six of the eight matches going to the last green.

Moray and Nairn meet on Sunday morning with the winner being favourite for the Shield but if they draw then Forres who play Moray in their last match will hope to put home advantage to good use.

Nairn go to with a convincing win against Moray with Fraser Fotheringham coming back from 5 down to win 1up. Elgin finished with a win against Nairn Dunbar after it came down to the last game with Neil McWillian and William Barron halving the match.
